The main attraction of the excursion is the charming Christmas market at Torvet, where 45 minutes are set aside to enjoy the festive atmosphere with market stalls, traditional Christmas food in the lavvo tent, and Christmas music.
Before we get there, we walk through Solsiden, a modern and lively area that was once an industrial and shipyard district and is now known for its maritime atmosphere, restaurants, and cafés along the Nidelva river.
We then cross the beautifully decorated Bakklandet (Trondheim’s old town), before stopping at Nidaros Cathedral, where we receive an exterior presentation. Nidaros Cathedral is Norway’s national sanctuary, the burial church of St. Olav, and one of Northern Europe’s most important and best-preserved medieval monuments.
On the return walk, we pass through some of Trondheim’s narrow alleyways (veiter), such as Westermannsveita, where the Light Tunnel is located. We also walk along part of the main street, Nordre gate, before passing the beautiful Britannia Hotel, Trondheim’s iconic luxury hotel with over 150 years of history, known for its classic elegance. From there, we return to the ship.
