The evening begins with a one-hour bus ride from Svolvær to Borg and the Lofotr Viking Museum, where we are introduced to exciting stories about the Vikings and prepare for a living encounter with the past.

When we arrive in Borg, in the heart of Lofoten, we have travelled 1,000 years back in time. Here we experience the Viking Age in a living and active environment, where history is not only told – it is lived. At Borg you will find the world’s longest reconstructed Viking longhouse, 83 meters long and 12 meters wide, a powerful building that offers a unique insight into the life and power of the chieftains.

The longhouse is decorated for a feast and filled with authentic Viking-age artefacts – from tools and textiles to weapons and decorative items. You will notice the flickering light from oil lamps, the smell of tar and fire, and the unique atmosphere that makes you feel transported back in time. The chieftain and his wife welcome us to a meal in the great hall, where all the senses are truly engaged.

During the meal, Vikings perform songs and music from the late Viking Age / early Middle Ages. You will see traditional dance and hear stories about everyday life in Borg – about the chieftain’s power, farm life, and the important celebrations of the Viking Age. The food is served in true Viking style, and Viking mead is served with the meal (for guests over 18), giving you the chance to taste the drink Vikings themselves enjoyed on festive occasions.

After the meal, there is time for a short visit to the souvenir shop or a walk through the reconstructed chieftain’s house, where you can see artefacts and details up close.

The bus then takes us on a 30-minute drive to Stamsund, where we meet the ship and continue the voyage south. Please note that it is dark for much of the winter season, but with some luck we may enjoy the winter landscape under a starry sky and moonlight.
