Ålesund was devastated by a city fire in 1904. In record time, the town rose from the ashes, and large stone buildings and boathouses in distinctive Art Nouveau style now define the cityscape. As you paddle through the harbour, along quays and under bridges, you’ll experience the town from a unique perspective, with excellent opportunities for photos.
Ålesund grew out of the fishing industry, and a kayak tour in the harbour may also bring you close to both small and larger fishing vessels. You might even capture local fishermen selling their catch along the quay.
The Gulf Stream ensures a stable and relatively mild water temperature, and the canals never freeze. At this time of year, the sea is especially clear, offering great opportunities to spot fish and starfish—often even better than in summer.
Does winter kayaking sound cold? With a dry suit and proper equipment, it is surprisingly comfortable. Your lower body stays warm inside the kayak, while your upper body remains active. All guests are equipped with a wetsuit, dry jacket, gloves, and paddling shoes, ensuring you are well prepared even on colder days.
We end the kayaking tour with a visit to a sauna for a warm and relaxing finish. Each sauna accommodates up to 8 people.
