Experience Trondheim from a different perspective. Quiet and close to both nature and city life, seen from a kayak on the Nidelva River.

The Nidelva runs through the centre of Trondheim and has been part of the city’s daily life for centuries. It has served as a route for trade and transport, and today it is used for recreation.

The tour is suitable for all levels of experience and runs in both summer and winter. After a short drive from the quay, it starts at Tempe sports facility, where experienced instructors provide a safe and clear introduction. You will go through paddling technique, safety, and equipment before setting out.

The route follows the river at a steady pace. Along the way, you pass natural surroundings and birdlife before continuing into Trondheim’s historic centre.

You paddle past old warehouse buildings along the river, towards Nidaros Cathedral and under the city’s bridges. This gives a clear view of Trondheim from the water, with a different perspective on its architecture and layout. The tour continues through the canal areas before ending at Brattørkaia. From there, it is a 15-minute walk back to the ship.

From 1 November to 1 May, dry suits are used for comfort and safety. All participants must be able to swim at least 50 metres and have a maximum weight of 110 kg. Depending on how fast the group paddles as a whole, the route may be shortened. If the river freezes or it becomes very dark in December–January, paddling will take place only along the canal. During the winter season, participants should wear at least two layers of underwear under the dry suit, as well as a hat and mittens. In summer, it is recommended to wear waterproof trousers and a windproof jacket. In addition, it is advisable to use sunscreen, wear a cap, and bring water.
