Join us for an immersive journey into the heart of Sami culture with a reindeer sledding experience and a visit to a Sami gamme.

Reindeer sledding outside Tromsø

The guides meet you at the pier and accompany you on a 25-minute bus ride to the excursion destination. Here, you will enjoy a reindeer sled ride around the camp area, idyllically located by the coast. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to feed the reindeer before enjoying a traditional, simple meal around the fireplace in a turf hut. The experience concludes with Sámi stories and joik (songs) by the campfire.

The Sami, the indigenous people of the North, possess their unique language and culture and inhabit an unofficial territory spanning Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia.

   

The Sami reindeer herding family in Tromsø has been engaged with these animals for generations, nurturing a flock of hundreds. They invite you to partake in their culture and customs, promising a memorable reindeer sledding ride, an authentic Sami meal in a gamme, and an evening of storytelling and joiking (Sami singing) around a campfire.

   

NO SNOW: The winter weather in Tromsø is variable. In certain situations like rain leading to ice and slipperiness, high winds, or heavy snow, we may have to cancel the reindeer sledding segment of the tour for the safety of our guests and the reindeer. If this occurs, we will strive to notify you as early as possible and offer two options: 1.) a full refund and you opt not to join the tour or 2.) you join us for the remaining activities (Reindeer Feeding and Sami Culture) and receive a partial refund to account for the cancellation of the reindeer sledding.
