Snowmobiling Under the Polar Sky

Snowmobiling Under the Polar Sky

This is what an Arctic adventure feels like. Gliding across vast white landscapes on a dark winter evening—or in spring, when soft pastel light slowly awakens and embraces the scenery.

Driver requirements:

  • Minimum age for drivers is 18 years.
  • The driver must hold a valid class B driver’s license that is valid for use in Norway.
  • A physical driver’s license must be presented.
  • Two adults are not allowed to share one snowmobile. Each participant drives their own snowmobile.

Children as passengers:

  • Children under 18 may ride as passengers with a guardian, but it is preferred that they ride with the guide when possible.
  • Children under 12 must always ride with the guide.
  • The minimum age for children is 6 years.
  • There is a limited number of seats available for children, so early booking is recommended.
  • At the start and end of the season, snow conditions may be limited, meaning only one person per snowmobile is permitted. Soft and porous snow affects both accessibility and safety, so passengers are therefore not allowed.

About the excursion

The guide meets us at the quay where the ship docks, and we go to the changing room where we put on snowmobile suits, boots, gloves, and helmets. Wear warm layered clothing. From there, it is a short bus ride to the snowmobiles, where an instructor provides safety and driving instructions.

Maybe you will see the Northern Lights blazing across the sky. The landscape all around is harsh and barren. Go ashore in the fishing village of Kjøllefjord, and the Havila Voyages ship will sail on while you continue north and east on your new means of transport: a snowmobile.

Ride through valleys and across plains before reaching Mehamn, the northernmost port on the journey. Park your snowmobile there, and board the Havila Voyages again.
