The Tromsø Bridge will be closed until November 2026, and all traffic between Tromsø Island and the mainland must therefore use the Tromsø Tunnel instead. This may lead to increased traffic and delays during this excursion, especially during rush hour. It may also result in longer travel times, waiting times at Fjellheisen, and the planned stop at Fullsteam being cancelled, with direct return to the pier instead. Any program changes will be communicated by your guide during the tour.

Please note that Fjellheisen Tromsø is currently not accessible for wheelchair users or guests with reduced mobility due to ongoing construction work. This will remain in effect until the new upper station is completed in summer 2027. There is no elevator at the facility, and access to both stations requires stairs.

Tromsø is not only the “Paris of the North”; it is also known as “The Gateway to the Arctic”. During your visit to Full Steam, you’ll get a historical look back, learning about the city’s development from the 1900s to today, as well as the beginnings of tourism in Northern Norway and Tromsø. Most importantly, you’ll gain valuable insight into Sámi culture, especially the coastal Sámi traditions.

The tour continues with a ride up Fjellheisen, 421 metres above sea level, where you can enjoy a spectacular view of Tromsø, its mountains, fjords, and islands. You may take a short walk on the mountain or visit the restaurant at the top. Before returning on board Havila Voyages, you will also have time to visit the Arctic Cathedral – the landmark whose architecture reflects the Arctic, whether you see it as an image of the northern lights, an iceberg, or fish‑drying racks. Tromsø is known as an international and modern city, as well as one of the world’s best “northern lights cities”.

In winter it can be slippery, so it is recommended to use traction cleats at the top of Fjellheisen. The cathedral may be closed or have restricted access due to religious services, religious holidays, or other events.
