We begin at the Havila Voyage’s ship and walk through Tromsø’s historic centre past landmarks such as Roald Amundsens square and the charming wooden cathedral from 1861. Known as the gateway to the Arctic, Tromsø played an important role in polar exploration and Arctic trade, and your guide shares stories about explorers, fishermen and residents who helped shape this northern city.

Walking along the main street Storgata and the town square, you will also experience modern Tromsø a lively university town where tourism, fisheries and Arctic research meet local traditions.

At Skansen and Vervet, the walk reaches one of Tromsø’s oldest areas. Here historic harbour structures and small wooden buildings from the late 1700s stand side by side with modern waterfront architecture, reflecting how the city continues to evolve.

The walk continues to Skansen and Vervet, one of Tromsø’s oldest harbour areas, where historic buildings stand beside modern waterfront architecture. Here you will have time to explore the harbour, see the small lighthouse and enjoy views across the sound to the Arctic Cathedral.

By the shoreline you will discover how closely Tromsø is connected to the Arctic Sea. Guests are invited to touch small natural objects from the shore while learning about marine life and fishing traditions. On calm days, those who wish may even test the temperature of the Arctic water themselves — towels and a warm drink are provided.

The tour ends near Polaria – the Arctic Experience centre, where you may continue exploring the city centre or return to the ship with the guide.
