Trondheim by boat
Trondheim by boat
Boat through the heart of Trondheim on picturesque historical waterways with local guides in traditional clinker-built (UNESCO) boats, and learn about the merchants' lives from olden days.
About the excursion
The guides will meet you at the quay and take you on a 15-minute walk to the pier, where the boats are waiting. The boats are open and offer no shelter, so we recommend dressing warmly: wear warm clothing (preferably in layers), sturdy shoes, and a wind- and waterproof jacket.

Welcome to a boat tour on the Nidelva River in traditional clinker-built wooden boats! Your journey is led by a local skipper who takes you on an unforgettable journey, while both new and old stories about the culture, history, and people of Trondheim are shared along the way. The clinker-built wooden boat is constructed using a traditional Nordic boatbuilding technique where the planks overlap and are fastened together with rivets. This method provides strength, flexibility, and an authentic historical feel – perfectly suited to the sea and river conditions of Norwegian coastal culture.
From the water you will see, among other sights, Nidaros Cathedral, the canal with the veteran boat harbor, the colorful Bryggerekka, and Gamle Bybro with its red gate.
*The sailing time is indicative and may change due to prevailing conditions and external factors. In the event of ice on the river, the route may be adjusted and shortened.
