View from the back of a ship sailing through a fjord, with a Norwegian flag, foamy wake in the water, and mountains rising on both sides under a partly cloudy sky.

Join a relaxing journey of discovery into this World Heritage landscape. In winter and early spring, you can experience the fjord without the large crowds. A special calm settles over the landscape, while the air is crisper, the light clearer, and the shadows deeper.

The fjord cruise is carried out with MS Geirangerfjord III – a modern sightseeing vessel adapted to the zero-emission requirements in the Geirangerfjord. With emission-free operation, the cruise contributes to a more sustainable way of experiencing this unique World Heritage area.

During the tour, you will witness the transition from the open coastal landscape to the narrow and dramatic fjords. You will travel through three fjords, accompanied by a Fjord Ranger who will explain how natural forces have shaped the landscape, describe the plants and wildlife that live here, and share stories about the people who once lived on narrow mountain ledges.

In Geiranger, you will take a bus to the well-known viewpoint Flydalsjuvet, where you can capture the iconic photo of the Geirangerfjord. The journey then continues to the Norwegian Fjord Centre – the World Heritage Centre for the West Norwegian Fjord landscape.

Here, you can explore the Fjord Centre’s interactive exhibitions at your own pace. The exhibitions present the fascinating and unique fjord landscape that was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 2005. Through exhibitions and interactive stations, you will gain insight into the geological processes that shaped the fjords, while also seeing how the landscape appears today.

You will also learn about the area’s biodiversity and how plants and animals have adapted to the different natural habitats. Be sure not to miss the beautiful film showcasing the entire World Heritage area: in the cinema, you can enjoy a powerful nature experience – comfortably seated indoors.

The return to the fjord and the cruise boat is by bus for those who prefer, or via 327 steps along the river for a more active end to the experience.

Please note: The order of activities in Geiranger may vary. The meal served during the fjord cruise may be subject to change. Refreshments and snacks can be purchased on board.
